WEST CHESTER, PA (April 6, 2017) – The Cheyney C Club, a Philadelphia 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Cheyney C Club 5K Run & Health Education Fair being held on the historical campus of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The race will raise scholarship support for Cheyney student-athletes through runner donations, pledges, and sponsorships.
This is the second year The C Club will host a race and health fair in Thornbury Township, after raising more than $7,000 in scholarship support during its inaugural event.
Cheyney alumna and C Club Board Member Yasheaka Oakley Owens says the event has become quite popular with the local community.
“The small businesses and nonprofits of Delaware County have really opened their arms to Cheyney and we are thankful that we have such a strong local support system interested in seeing our students succeed,” said Oakley Owens.
William Eyre, General Manager of the newly launched Main Line Health Fitness & Wellness Center in Glen Mills, was happy to become an event sponsor the race.
“We are new to the area, but we are familiar with Cheyney and were happy to sponsor today’s warm-up exercises in support of their scholarship fund,” said Eyre.
Registration and check-in will begin at 8 o’clock, with the warm-up exercises starting at 8:30. Although on-site registration will be available on April 22, runners are encouraged to register online in advance for a guaranteed bib, event t-shirt, and lunch after the race.
The race registration fee is $30 for adult runners or walkers, $15 for high school or college students, and $10 for children ages 5-13 participating in the one mile race on the track. Prizes are available for top finishers and children.
Starting at Cheyney’s O’Shields Stevenson Stadium, the 5k run will lead down Creek Road before returning to the campus. Select portions of Creek Road will be closed to motor vehicles during the event but all traffic should resume by 10 o’clock.
The Health Education Fair is free and open to the public. It will feature a variety of local organizations providing visitors with information about financial literacy, blood pressure screenings, bone marrow screenings and other health and wellness resources available in Chester and Delaware Counties.
The Cheyney C Club 5K Run & Health Education Fair is sponsored in part by The Cheyney Foundation, Chester Water Authority, Keystone First PA, ACME, Wegmans of Concordville, Allstate Insurance, and many other individual and community supporters.
