On Monday, August 25, The Cheyney “C” Club, Cheyney University’s official athletic booster club, hosted the fifth annual Wade Wilson Golf Tournament and Silent Auction at the Penn Oaks Country Club in West Chester, PA.
The tournament continued the success of previous years, featuring about 100 golfers and 20 non-golfers who enjoyed a non-golfer clinic, Pinochle Tournament, and wine and cheese tasting at Penns Woods Winery.
Corporate sponsors have been the a key component to the event’s ongoing success. This year, sponsors included The Sazerac Company, Allstate, PECO, Kelly’s Sports, The Cheyney Foundation, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Lexus of Cherry Hill, Universal Companies and PK Financial Group.
“Members have concern for the lack of funding being given to schools like Cheyney University and have offered their support for our yearly golf outing to help us raise scholarship money,” says Skinner. “Anyone who wants to help our students can join.” Members have contributed steadily in support of the University since the “C” Club was founded in 2008.
While The “C” Club is committed to Cheyney University’s 12 varsity sports and the cheerleading squad and seeks to enhance school spirit, increase attendance at sporting events, raise money for the department and build overall enthusiasm for the University, businessmen and women and community members from the surrounding Philadelphia areas can join. Through contributions to the annual athletic fund, donors are enrolled as members of the “C” Club, a status that entitles them to receive membership benefits corresponding to their donation level. “C” Club members believe that a strong intercollegiate athletic program can enhance character and University spirit, as well as increase Cheyney’s national visibility.
